It is very easy to get caught up with what your spiritual gifts are. It’s a wonderful thing to think about. The Lord of the universe gave us special gifts we can use to bring Glory to Him. There are dozens of spiritual gift surveys online that can help you evaluate what your spiritual gift might be. The spiritual gifts include leadership, administration, teaching, knowledge, wisdom, prophecy, discernment, exhortation, shepherding, faith, evangelism, apostleship, service, mercy, giving, and hospitality. (Romans 12:6-8, 1 Corinthians 12:8-10; 28-30, Ephesians 4:11)
However, it is impractical to think that you can receive and effectively use your spiritual gifts without having the Fruits of the Spirit. The Fruits of the Spirit include, “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” (Galatians 5:22-23) The giver of spiritual gifts is also the giver of spiritual fruits. When you embody these fruits, you are displaying the characteristics of the Holy Spirit. You cannot “utilize” the gift effectively, without the characteristics needed to further the gospel.
If you feel that you are currently embodying the Fruits of the Spirit, a great spiritual gifts test to take can be found here. The test is from Lifeway Christian Resources.
